Message HAVING PROBLEMS WITH pcaNYWHERE. nOT ABLE TO SEE UDATEWHEN I CLICK ON FILES SETTINGS. THIS WAS WORKIHNG PRIOR TO THIS WEEKEND. cAN I FIX BY CHANGIN PCANYWHERE SETTING OR ATUOMIZE SETTINGS?
Reply1 Hi Tony,

1) I have never used PC anywhere, so I have no idea what the problem could be, if it were a PC anywhere issue. 2) In Automize, the only setting that may effect this is the - Settings menu / Options / Platform look . One of the two - windows or default may work better.

Reply2 Thanks for your quick response. I originally had it on default and same problem occurred. Tried all the other settings and Java worked best. But occasionally for some unknown reason with pcAnywhere (or may be windows 2000 server) it decides not to fully refresh the screen. I can minimize or restore the Automize window but when I click on a tab nothing appears to happen. Clicking on another open window (e.g. Excel) so it covers Automize then clicking on the Automize button on the task bar to bring it to the front then displays the menu item i selected. Sometimes rebooting can resolve this but being a server I must avoid rebooting as it affect production work. Closing and restarting Automize doesn't work, only a reboot. I even tried restarting pcAnywhere but without a reboot it seem futile.

I feel it's a windows glitch with pcAnywhere but was hoping you had seen any similar problem with remote control software and your product.

I will research further and if I come up with a solution I will let you know what I did so you can post it on your site to help others.

Regards,

Reply3 Hi Tony,

I just searched the java.sun.com website for PCanywhere and found a few articles on screen incompatibilities between PCanywhere and Java. This is a java developer site and you may not be able to view the articles unless you have an account there or create one, so I am attaching snipets of some of the articles.

sincerely, melvin desilva ----------------------------------------------------------- Submit Date 18-MAR-1999 2) Tell pcAnywhere to run in "compatability" mode. You can force pcAnywhere to updated its view of the server constantly. It will then go out to the server and download the new screen, regardless of what has or has not changed since the last request. This is done via the Tools menu, Applications dialog. Go to the "Host Operation" tab and change "Video mode selection" to "Compatability". (This is all assuming version 9.2; other versions of pcAnywhere may have a different means of setting this control). note that the performance of pcAnywhere will be somewhat slower. Also, the rendering of any animations in the Java app may appear fragmented. This is because pcAnywhere is grabbing pixels from the server while the app is animating, so it may grab pixels from several different frames of the animation at once and put them together in a somewhat confusing display. But for simple GUI applications that do not move as fast, this may not matter.

I have been having the same problem with PCAnywhere when one day by mistake I found (well a bit dodgy) solution, maybe it will work for you too. You start the JAVA application, then log out from PCAnywhere log in again, and the GUI will work fine. Hope it helps.

I was able to solve my problem running JRE 1.4.2 with pcAnywhere 10.5 on Windows 2000 by upgrading the Microsoft DirectX on the host computer to the latest version from the Microsoft website, version 9.0b. See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;drx
