|
|
I am using AbleFTP and have define an FTP task, I want it to compare files on a remote directory with files referenced in the ftplog, I did this on one system to test and it seems to work fine I can see the entries in the ftp log, I have setup on a live system with the tab 'Transfer modified files using FtpLog' set and 'Log transfer' set, but when I look at the FtpLog it just has the entry saying 'Enable ftp logging by selecting Log Transfer option in Ftp tasks', I have done this but it doesn't work, am I doing something wrong here?

| Doh, call me a donut, I see that it actually creates a new ftplog file with the name of the task, this is all nice, however it seems to be overwriting files that are currently downloading or have already been downloaded, I have the task set to run every 5 mins, should I be using FTPMonitor instead? |

No, you do not need to use the monitoring tasks. Ftp task should be enough.
There are a couple of techniques you can use to make sure that files are not redownloaded in subsequent schedules.
one way is to select the following options in advanced tab:
select option to transfer modified files
select option to maintain timestamp |

OK, I have selected the Maintain timestamp function but it doesn't appear to maintain the timestamp, it just seems to stamp the current connection time on the file??
Here's the scenario:
I connect to 2 ftp sites, 1 has mpg,md5 and png files that are updated daily and maintain around 3 days worth of files.
The other has .itv files, these are again updated daily but maintain over a variable number of days.
I have set for the first one:
Filename - mpg^md5^png
Transfer - binary
Transfer modified files using FtpLog - Yes
Log Transfer - Yes
Maintain timestamp - Yes
I have the same for second one except Filename - itv
It just seems to keep downloading the same files with a different timestamp.
Any ideas?? |

| Now this is even wierder, I have done a manual connect using the FTP tab to the second server and even in the listings on the remote server window on the right it lists all files with the current time and updates them with the current time if I click refresh, this is the time listed under the Modified column, if I connect with a different FTP client it lists the files with their correct timestamp.??? I'm really confused with this, it seems that there are some serious bugs with AbleFTP and it isn't the simple effective program I expected when I bought it.!! |

Is there an issue running this on Windows Server 2003?
I have been trying to get this working, I have removed all tabs, so nothing is selected and ran the task, it downloads all files with the current time stamped, I have just set the Maintain timestamp flag and ran the task again and the same thing, all files are downloaded with the current time stamped, this seems to make no difference whatsoever.
I can only think that this program doesn't work with Windows Server 2003. |

There is no known issue with resetting timestamp on 2003 server.
Try the following settings:
Filename - DO a specific filename to transfer just 1 or 2 files...
Transfer modified files using FtpLog - NO
Log Transfer - Yes
Transfer modified files - Yes
Server Offset - determine this and enter this value
Maintain timestamp - Yes
To determine server timezone offset. Put a file onto the server and check its timestamp relative to your local system time.
Then run the task twice and send us the support files
help menu / email support generator
Task to analyze field - enter or select task title from list
Click on ZIP button
email us the support.zip file |

You have selected 'Names only' mode in the directory listing format in the profile setup?
In this mode, file timestamp based comparisons cannot be done since no file timestamp or file size or permission information is available.
Also, your FTP server type is Windows (Microsoft FTP server). There should be no problem getting full directory listing for this server type.
Change to Full Listing in the profile setup and try again. |
