They are 2 different modules, both have similar features using SFTP.
They use 2 different 3rd party SFTP libraries.
The -j stands for jscape which is a very good 3rd party java FTP/SFTP library from jscape.com.

Similarly, we have FTP and FTP-j using different FTP libraries. FTP-j and SFTP-j is the newer module but we develop all 4 modules (FTP, FTP-j, SFTP, SFTP-j) equally.

The reason we have 2 FTP and 2 SFTP modules from different 3rd parties is because if there is an issue using one module to a particular FTP or SFTP server, then the user can try the other module. If the same error occurs with both modules, then the cause is the FTP or SFTP server.
