First question:

Is there a way to tell if the the engine instance we're using is bound to the UI or the NT service? I'd prefer something other than "make sure all the Automize users are logged out of the UI".

Second question:

Is there any reason why multiple admins can't have automize open at once or any other multi-user caveats we should be aware of?

thanks in advance!

1) The only way would be to look back in the activity log and see the latest engine launch entry. The NT service launch entries are fairly different from entries when engine is launched from user interface.

2) The settings are stored in property text files. with multiple simultaneos users only problem that may occur is when 2 users:
a) edits the same task or schedule simultaneosly. This would not be that frequent.
b) edits or create a Ftp/Sftp/Email profile simultaneosly. All Ftp/SFtp/Email profiles are stored in single files (i.e. no separate files for each profile). This may happen more frequently. The profiles are read from settings file. Then displayed in the user interface. Settings file is NOT locked. When saved, the profile settings are saved to file again. So, if 2 users edit Ftp profiles simultaneosly, the guy who saves it last will get his changes committed.

3) You can test out these situations by opening 2-3 intstances of the user interface on your own machine and changing settings on all of them simultaneosly.
