Did the chains all fail around the same time? how many were there?
When was the last time the engine was restarted?
Are you running a restart task every night or every few nights?

It depends on the amount of schedules or tasks run per day. Every night does not hurt (generally.. see below). The task starts new instance of engine and shuts down current instance after tasks currently running complete.

However, recently one user has reported that on win2003 server, the shutdown engine instances remain as zombies and show up in Task manager (multiple javaw.exe). So, if you run this task nightly, keep an eye out for this, for the first week or so.
