Run under non-admin account on Windows

Postby Jamie » Sat Nov 02, 2013 5:20 am

User support request:

I installed this on one computer, but always had to get administrative rights to run it. Now that computer died and I want to install this on a different laptop. How do I do this and not have to always get administrative rights?

Interestingly, no one has ever asked us this before. The nature of the software/tasks (delete files anywhere, run programs etc.) does need admin level access.
Once you install the software,
1) There is a manifest file called Automize.exe.manifest (C:\program files <x86>\Automize10 folder)
2) Right click on Notepad and select "run as admin".
3) Edit Automize.exe.manifest
Change the following line:
<requestedExecutionLevel level="requireAdministrator" uiAccess="false"/>
to:
<requestedExecutionLevel level="asInvoker" uiAccess="false" />
4) Save this file (i.e overwrite existing manifest file)
5) Check the permissions of the Automize10 folder.
6) Set the permissions for the desired user to full control.
7) Click on the Automize.exe icon to start the software.
8) Automize will be limited to folders/drives etc that the user is limited to. Also, it cannot be run as a service under non-admin accounts.
