public Key ID is different

Postby melvin » Tue Jan 07, 2014 5:33 pm

user support request:
I create the key in Automize, exported the key and sent the asc file to my client. They imported onto their public keyring and then encrypted the file. However, when I try to decrypt it fails and the key ID is different than what I show in the software. The output log shows a different key ID. How can the key ID be different when I created it and exported from Automize?

As a test, please encrypt a file and decrypt using the key pair you created. This will factor out a key issue.

I successfully encrypted and decrypted a file. I still cannot decrypt the file from my partner.

Sometimes GPG will not find the correct key in a key ring, based on the standard name<email> format. In your decryption profile, enter your key id instead of the name<email>. then try the task again.

user reply:

This does not work.
The error says:
gpg: encrypted with RSA key, ID 79XXXXX
gpg: decryption failed: secret key not available

However, the properties of the key show a different ID.
pub EA37XXXX 2014-01-02

I generated this key as a new key in Automize 10, then they imported into their key ring and this is what happens.

More User Feedback:
I also received the following from my partner. Below is the key listing from his public key ring. I have also attached the asc file generated by Automize that was used to import the key to the key ring.

Type Bits KeyID Created Expires Algorithm Use
pub 2048 0x795XXXX 2014-01-02 ---------- RSA Sign & Encrypt

RSA keys are generally used for signing. DSA-ELgamal are for encryption and decryption. What does the key type say in your Automize Keystore?
If it is a RSA key, then please generate a DSA-Elgamal key and try again.
